SoPoDOG Campaign - Bring You Own Bag!

SoPoDOG is launching a 2010 Campaign for a City-Wide
Bring Your Own Bag Program
for dog walkers!

Peggy Stewart and I have been working on this issue by connecting with the city and advocates to find funds and alternatives for the current "Mutt Mitts" supplied by the city and paid for by taxpayer dollars. It is still unclear if the bags will be in the budget, but it is likely the funding will be cut. Peggy and I requested to have at least half of the $8,000 budget left intact for the rest of this year. In asking for $4,000 we hope this will allow time to come up with alternative plans to put in place and to provide bags for summer users.

We also are working on starting a "Bring Your Own Bag" program. We hope everyone will participate in this effort to alleviate the pressure on taxpayer dollars.

Basically the program is simple, just put a few bags in your pocket or attach them to your leash. Bring your own from home so you don't need to use any Mutt Mitts. Have an extra bag available to pick up a stray poop or give to a "bag-less" dog owner.

It's simple, and it will help us be better stewards of the environment and show respect to the taxpayers who voted to allow us to continue to use Willard Beach and share the other parks with us!

If anyone has a clever slogan, nickname or idea for a logo for this program please feel free to contact me! I would love to hear from you!
